Hiring Process

Applicants must successfully complete a hiring process that includes:

  • Application: Job openings are posted on the Employment Opportunities page. To be considered, applicants must submit all the specified application material mentioned in the job posting.
  • Interview: Submitted application materials are reviewed, and selected applicants are scheduled for a panel interview.
  • Conditional Offer: The selected applicant will be presented with a conditional offer of employment. If the offer is accepted, the pre-employment screening and the new hire onboarding plan will begin.
  • Post-Offer, Pre-Employment Screening: Employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of applicable post-offer, pre-employment hiring requirements (for example: background check, reference checks, pre-employment physical, drug screen, etc.), and completion of the new hire onboarding plan. Screening requirements are based on the type of position being filled.
  • Notification: After the pre-employment screening and onboarding plan is completed, the selected candidate will be sent an email with details regarding their first day of employment.

The city commission, in accordance with state law, must approve a Salary Ordinance; on an annual basis. This ordinance pertains to the adoption of the City’s comprehensive pay plan, providing the salaries for our classified, unclassified, and seasonal/temporary employees. It outlines the specific positions the City employs and their corresponding pay ranges, including minimum and maximum hourly rates.
