Ring-Tailed Lemur

Scientific Name: Lemur catta

Unlike other lemurs, Ring-Tailed Lemur spend about 40 percent of their time on the ground and typically live up to 16 years. While they move through the forests, they use their long tails as balance.

    • Weight: Average 5 pounds
    • Length: 15 to 18 inches in length
    • Tail Length: 22 to 24 inches
  • Diet: Omnivores and opportunistic; will eat fruit, leaves, nut, flowers, insects, small reptiles, and small birds
  • Habitat: Only found in the southern and southwestern Madagascar forests

Conservation Status

Listed as Endangered - major threat is habitat loss.
