Facilities include an air-conditioned gymnasium, pool table, tennis table, games, a stage, meeting rooms, giant screen television, conference room and banquet facilities. Facilities, including the gym, are available to rent by calling us at 785-587-2773.

Douglass Center Architectural & Electrical Improvements

Upgrades to the Douglass Community Center are planned over the next two years using Community Development Block Grant funding. BG Consultants has been hired to design architectural and electrical improvements. The Strategic Facility Improvement Plan identified numerous facility upgrades including the need to upgrade electrical panels and renovate the restroom and locker room areas. The project will be designed in two phases. Construction of Phase 1 electrical upgrades is complete. 

Construction Update - Phase 2
Phase 2 building improvements have started at the Douglass Center to add new restrooms and changing areas to the building. Construction is anticipated to be at the Center until August 1. Accessible restrooms will be available at the Douglass Center Annex during this time. 

Fall/Winter Hours (beginning Aug. 15):

Monday - Thursday: 3 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Friday: 3 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Saturday: noon - 4 p.m.
Sunday: Closed

New Class

Chicago Style Steppin' is an African-American cultural dance art form that has a unique appeal. It combines the elegance of ballroom dancing with timing and other social dances. The class will be offered from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday evenings, August 24- October 12, at the Douglass Community Recreation Center. The fee is $60/individual. The instructor is Ben Jackson.


Adult Pickleball Club

Pickleball is a cross between tennis, table tennis, and badminton. It is played with wooden paddles and a plastic Whiffleball. The object of the game is to hit the ball so that your opponent is unable to hit it back over the net. Hours of play are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. at the Douglass Center Gym. 
Homework Assistance & Tutoring Program
Retired teachers, K-State students and community members work together to provide individual homework assistance and skills improvement for elementary and secondary students. Educational games as well as software are used to provide improvement in math, reading and thinking skills. This is provided free of charge. As students complete their work, they progress toward special places marked on a map of Kansas and earn small prizes. Monday through Wednesday 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. at Douglass Community Center Annex. Group Fitness Classes

Join Instructor Mitzie Rojas and Kerry Regan for a variety of exercise classes. Take your pick from workouts at various levels of intensity including: Zumba, Fitness Flow and yoga. Join us for seasonal boot camps and other specialty classes or select one-on-one personal training or yoga instruction.
